The Steady Decline of Contents In Our Music Industry.

They say content is King, staying real is originality. But can this be said about Nigeria Entertainment Industry?
It has gotten to a stage where we need to remind our Music Directors, Producers and singers that everything is not about "Pangolo" beat. We have to let them know it is not until when they sexually arouse us with lewd ladies rocking in their video shoot that we will become interested.

Unfortunately, Most Nigerians especially youth have forgotten songs with lyrical and rich contents and prefer to shake their bums and throw "Dabs," so long the song have a fast and danceable beat.
We prefer to patronise noise makers, one musician will sit down somewhere and write imaginary lines, before you say Jack, he is already at the studio with his producers looking for danceable beats.
We have used this habit to force those Song writers who are ready to give us rich contents to start singing out of place.
In Nigeria, only few artistes like Timi Dakolo, Darey, 2face, ASA amongst others are still holding onto rich contents and nice beats.

For those song writers that deviated and decided to go commercial, I wouldn't blame them because we refused to patronized and forced them to start singing to our popular " Pangolo Beats." Passion without money is a joke.
Therefore, to be able to bring back rich contents to Nigeria music, we have to let musicians know it is not about the beat, nude pictures or dance but about the contents that are inspirational.

KCee speaks on Government ban on shooting videos outside Nigeria.

Kcee’s Opinion To FG’s Move To Stop Music Production Abroad (video)

KCee, Five Star Music Artiste has reacted to the Federal Government’s move to put an end to the production of Nigerian music and videos abroad. He did this during his interview with Wotzup ONTV.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed had said during a meeting with the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) that the Federal Government will look in to ways they can help the local entertainment industry. Part of their plan is to stop the trend whereby contents meant for the Nigerian public is produced abroad and brought into the country for consumption and as well saying shooting videos outside the country doesn’t add to the nation’s economy.

Many Nigerian music artistes have shared their views concerning the move. PSquare, Kcee, Yemi Alade, Falz, Ruggedman, Charly Boy are some of those who have slammed the minister and the FG’s decision.
Five Star Music artiste, KCee sees it as a move that will stop or hinder the progress of the music industry. He gave an instance of difficult it will always be to bring a foreign musician all the way from London to Nigeria to shoot a video.
Currently, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is away in London concerning health issues. Nigerians have complained about the prolong absence of the President whose nature of sickness they are not informed about.
The proposed move by the FG is seen by many musicians including Peter of Psquare as an hypocritical one since most government officials prefer overseas when they want to educate their children or get medical attention.
The singer also spoke on the issue of social media fans always questioning to know the source of his brother E-money’s wealth.

Nigeria Hip Hop Musicians and Twitter Fights

Until recently, Twitter used to be a social site where you tweet and get reply from others, even our entertainers used it to show love to their many fans.
Twitter has a unique feature which is it use of #words (#Guruzland) that can trend very fast across the globe.

It is this feature that many of our artistes especially hip hop artiste used to get attention, they have taken it one step further by throwing jibes and abusive words at each other, which will immediately make them trend as their fans would rally round them to support against the opponent.

One thing I have come to notice is after each of the Twitter clash, one party or at times both parties would release a song that would quickly trend and people will forget about the fight they had.

Is this a new marketing strategy?
Do they intentionally create scenes on Twitter just to get fans attention?

I believe it to be so, like in the case of Singer A and Singer B something like a back stage chat could have occur.

Take a look at this scenerio.
Conversation via Twitter Direct Message.
Singer A: Singer B, I gat a track to release soon.
Singer B: Oh nice, I gat an album to release soon too. Don't you think we should try to get people's attention before the release?
Singer A: Nice idea, *smiles * Singer B eleniyan.

The next thing, Singer B tweet, "some people with frog voice cannot do this."
Before you know it Kasala have burst.

They should keep on playing us but the truth is we know.

Network Providers have turn us to borrowers.

Whoever brought the idea of borrowing call credit from Network Providers meant well and should be applauded because from the theory aspect the sole aim of the borrowing was for Emergency times.
But practically, trust Nigerians, most of us have turn it to a routine basis.

Our Network Providers through this act  have turn some of us to perpetual borrowers that we are no longer even ashamed to display our debit status, you will hear some people say "I can't load card on MTN I owe them N500, give me Glo." Some people will borrow then break the sim because they don't want to pay back. It has gotten to a stage where once you don't have call credit on your phone the next thing is to turn to getting it through borrowing.

The funny thing is for each debt, these Network providers charge us some percent with the minimum being 5percent and it has been notice that call rate is costly when using borrowed credit, yet we still don't care. Some Network Providers don't allow "borrowed credit" go beyond a day even if you don't finish it because by the next day it would be empty.
Do you prefer buying to borrowing?

Nigerian Beggers to Pay tax. (Making of a new Profession.)

Immediately I saw the news beggers would start paying tax, I knew Federal Government was ready to impose tax on everyone and also made sure it is paid.
With this new ideology, Begging has been categorized as a profession which means the people in this business have to seriously improve their begging skills, probably we would get to see "Begging Schools" that will be about teaching people how to beg and get paid. The theme is If you don't pay tax no begging.

I see beggers forming a coalition and you might get to hear Nigeria Beggers Society or Beggers Association of Nigeria because begging as been branded a profession.
While I believe Federal Government is right about these beggars been mega rich than those that work hard 24/7, what do we have to say of those that are handicap and really have to beg before they can eat, will the Government tax these ones?
I am not promoting begging but if the Government can only tax those who are able bodied and sound in mind but still resort to begging.
With this, I believe our Religious Houses will be next?

Did you pursue your childhood dream?

Take some minutes to look back into your past as a young child of Seven years of age. Those days the only question people asked us especially those distant cousins that will come and be "terrorizing one with questions" just to know if ones parent were really spending on one's education, most times they want to hear your mastery in English and you begin to hear "Uncle, your son is such a smart chap." God help you you disgraced your parent by answering an English question in your dialect, you will hear " Uncle's son is so dull, the only thing he knows is biscuit."
Well, that is not where I am pointing at, you see, during those questions and answering session, there was always this particular question almost every one ask us, "What Do You Want To Become In Future?"
Many of us then will just open our mouth and just spew out anything that our brains send to our mouth but some of us really meant what we said then and we pursued our dream to the fullest.
Let me share mine, I for one back in primary school always wanted to be an Engineer, got to Junior Secondary School and it changed to Aeronautical Engineer, got to Senior Secondary School and Lo and behold, I found my self in Commercial Class/Social Science Class, may be I wanted to be a commercialized Engineer. Well, Dearest, in the long run I became an Accounting student.
Share yours, did you pursue your childhood dream?

New Change in Etisalat NG. (Rebranding)

Nigeria Telecommunication giant had a set back owing to it inability to meet up with its debts. News revealed Etisalat owned at least Nine Banks huge sum of money, another issue was when the parent company, Arab owned Etisalat decided to ditch the firm and also made it known to Etisalat Nigeria to stop using it brand.
Well, this week news revealed Etisalat Nigeria finally changes it name to 9mobile ( The reason for using 9 might be because it is now own by 9banks.) This makes Etisalat NG the second popular Telecommunication company after Airtel to have gone through renaming and change of brand.( Airtel for instance as gone through a lot of change of name and rebranding, old names of Airtel include Econet, Vmobile, Celtel.)

Owing to the change of Brand, unlike Airtel,  9mobile formally known as Etisalat is now own by banks, Nine banks for that matter. As it is known, banks are after recouping their money and also making profit, this means the new management will have to bring up ideas on how to increase tarrifs so as to be able to pay up the firm's debt.
There will be a lot of expenses, as 9mobile will have to change everything own by Etisalat to it new name, it will also have to create a new website.

The acquisition might also bring about reduction in staff so as to minimize cost, this means lay off is on the way.

What most people now fear is will 9mobile be able to meet up with the standard service laid down by Etisalat NG? Will it be able to stand the test of Time? Because in the case of Airtel, every time it had a change of name,it service changed and went on like that. We hope in the coming days we wouldn't hear 9mobile changes name.
Wishing the new 9mobile management well as they venture into the corporate world.

MAPOLY conversion to University. What is at stake?

The recent conversion of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) to a University by the Ogun State Government which has been given approval is a welcome idea but without it own disadvantages.
I believe MAPOLY can handle this fit well because the fees when it was a polytechnic was able to sustain it as it was one of the most expensive polytechnic in Nigeria. They hardly go on strike so with a little increase the school will be able to run as a University.
But what the Government and most stakeholders have failed to put into consideration is what is bound to happen as the school goes through conversion.
The other day it was in the news that the lecturers of the school refused to work owing to rumoured news that some people would be sacked.
This should be expected because it has been elevated to a University standard, this means those lecturers with HND, Bsc certificates will have to kiss their job goodbye and some whose certificate are not up to standard might be demoted as more Professors would be needed.
Another thing is the students population, for universities there is a number of students that should make up the population. But in Mapoly the students population is on the high side, you can see close to a thousand student in one class. So is the school just going to send the students away so as to meet the expected population.
It is a welcome development but the Government should take note.

FG ends Bsc and Hnd Dichotomy.

As it is not that the war in the Educational sector between Bsc vs Hnd certificates has been long over due. Well, the Federal Government has come out to put an end to this war in terms of Salary difference in federal establishment.

A board meeting which was chaired by the Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. Abdulrahm an Dambazau, has approved the salaries to be paid to Hnd and Bsc holders.
This was made known on Tuesday at the Federal Capital Territory,Abuja.
According to a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji.
It read, “The board directed that all officers with HND to be upgraded to COMPASS 08, which is the salary grade level for holders of degree certificates at entry point.
“While the nomenclature for the HND holders will start with the rank of Senior Inspector, the degree holders are with the rank of Assistant Superintendent II.”
